Today, we’re breaking down one of the most important principles in the OPEX philosophy: Teach. Learn. Move. Create.

This isn’t just a catchy slogan. It was born from James Fitzgerald’s vision of what it really means to be a coach. Over the years, we’ve refined it, lived it, and watched it transform the careers of those who embrace it.

These four words, Teach, Learn, Move, Create are both a reminder and a challenge. They remind us of what truly matters, and they challenge us to embody it daily.

Why It Matters

Coaching is not just writing programs. It’s not sets, reps, and macros on a spreadsheet. Coaching is:

  • A life you live

  • A craft you teach

  • A practice you embody

  • And a creation you leave behind

If you can Teach, Learn, Move, and Create consistently, you’ll never burn out, and you’ll always be growing.

The Four-Part Framework

1. TEACH – Coaching is Mentorship

Every coach is a teacher. Every client interaction is an opportunity to educate.

Teaching builds fulfillment: without pouring into others, coaching becomes hollow. And teaching doesn’t mean dumping information, it’s about translating principles into practices that your clients can own for life.

Ask yourself: Did I teach my client something today that will serve them beyond the gym?

2. LEARN – Coaching is a Craft

The best coaches are lifelong learners. They refuse complacency.

Learning isn’t about chasing every new trend. It’s about deepening your mastery of fundamentals: physiology, nutrition, behavior, communication, leadership.

Ask yourself: What did I learn this week that made me a better coach?

3. MOVE – Coaching is Embodiment

You must practice what you preach.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about congruence. If you live what you teach, clients respect and trust you. Your movement, your health, your lifestyle, these are visible examples that either reinforce or contradict your message.

Ask yourself: Am I living in alignment with what I program for others?

4. CREATE – Coaching is Artistry

Coaches are creators. Every program you write is an act of design. Every lifestyle prescription is a creative solution to a human problem.

Creation requires both science (principles) and art (application). Don’t just copy templates, create personalized journeys that honor your clients as individuals.

Ask yourself: What did I create today that was uniquely designed for my client?

Putting It Into Practice

  • Daily practice: Write these four words Teach. Learn. Move. Create. where you’ll see them. Let them filter how you show up.

  • Weekly review: At the end of each week, reflect: Did I teach? Did I learn? Did I move with integrity? Did I create with purpose?

  • With clients: Share this framework. Let them see that coaching is not just workouts, it’s mentorship, growth, example, and artistry.

Closing Thoughts

Teach. Learn. Move. Create.

These aren’t just four words. They’re a compass.

A coach who lives by them is never stagnant, never hollow, never out of integrity.

So this week, don’t just write programs live the motto.

  • Teach something.

  • Learn something.

  • Move with purpose.

  • Create something new.

That’s what it means to be a coach.Listen to Episode 16 Now
